Welcome to the World of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) Materials!!!

This is the biggest leap forward in Second Life since the advent of MESH! Now we have true reflections, shiny, realistic metals, glass that looks real and much more.

WARNING: As of 11/30/2023 PBR is a NEW FEATURE and subject to change and availability, both in world in and in viewers. In order to use these materials, you MUST be using one of the viewers that has enabled PBR functionality. This functionality is currently available in the official released version of the Second Life viewer, the Alchemy Viewer and the Alpha/Beta version of Firestorm. If you do not use one of these viewers, you will NOT see the materials when applied to objects and the materials themselves will not be usable. You will get errors.

About PBR Materials

PBR Materials are an advancement over the current Diffuse/Normal/Speculative material textures that are commonly used in Second Life. They do not work with or require the use of the LEGACY diff/norm/spec files and are far easier to use. The PBR materials combine all of the individual textures into ONE easy-to-use file called a "material". You can simply drag the PBR material onto an object or face to apply it. You can also do it within the EDIT menu, much like you would the DIFF/NORM/SPEC, but by selecting Materials or PBR Materials from the drop down in the Texture edit panel.

Our Materials

Our materials are created in Adobe Substance to achieve the highest quality and compatability.

We deliver our materials via a wearable HUD. Simply "ADD" the item your receive. It will appear on the center of your screen and will automatically give you the material(s) enclosed. You can also choose to rezz the HUD and unpack it like you would anything else. It's up to you.

Our materials will appear in a folder of the same name as the object they were in (example: PBR Materials: Metal Set #1 (Wear me)).

Once you have them in your inventory, you can move the enclosed MATERIAL(s) in your new PBR Materials folder in your SL Inventory or into any desired folder in your inventory. SL includes a new "Materials" folder at the top level of your inventory. This is where any Materials you upload get placed by default. You can move the materials there, if you like, or put them anywhere you want.

We have named our delivery folder and materials to make them easy to find. The Folder name (if any) will be PBR Materials: <set name>. The individual materials names begin with the name: Deb_PBR_ and then are followed by a descriptive name for the type of material and what it looks like.

For example:

Deb_PBR_metal_silver

This is a material for use as or on METAL parts and it looks like silver.

Deb_PBR_wood_solid_oak

This is a material for us on WOODEN parts and it looks like solid pieces of oak, rather than planks.

Are PBR Materials Seamless?

Yes and no. The materials themselves are relatively seamless, so you won't see ugly lines where they meet, but you may notice that some materials are made to put different patterns, shading, highlighting, etc on different parts of the surface. This is to simulate things like... ground effects, weather patterns, etc. As a result, some materials may work better on some objects than others. For example, we make an olive drab material for steel objects that appear painted green. It has dust, dirt and other darkening effects near the bottom, where the item would sit on the "ground" and is lighter near the "top". Using this material on a spherical object may create interesting effects that you might not expect. When placed on a face that is oriented differently, you may neet to rotate the material in the edit panel.

Individual Textures?

PBR Materials are composed of several underlying textures that can be edited and managed separately. We do not provide these. We provide the complete, ready-to-use material. Our materials are "drag and drop", but are provided FULL PERM, so that you may edit them to your liking.

LICENSE

You may use our PBR Materials in Second Life and Open Sim as you like for your own personal use. You may NOT distribute the materials themselves. You may APPLY the material to an object and distribute that object. So you are freely allowed to put the materials on anything you want and use that object however you want, freely. We don't care. However, if you give our materials away, you will be violating our license and that is not a good thing.
