I like the nice friendly BWind interfaces used by a lot of boats. While I adore the level of detail presented in the boats like the Cafe Del Mar, Bandit 25 and Pacha 110 I'm not a great fan of information being presented via a working instrumentation panel. Don't get me wrong, my inner geek takes great delight in seeing working instrumentation panels. But my inner sailor craves something that provides me the information in a fashion that's easier to see when I'm out on a cruise or a race.
This is a script that you drop in to your Pacha 110 (boat not supplied!), which allows you to display the information normally only displayed on the Pacha's on-board instruments.
The display consists of the following items:-
Heading (in degrees)
Speed (in Knots)
Apparent Wind Angle (in degrees)
Sheet Angle (in degrees)
Ratio of Apparent Wind Angle to Sheet Angle
Depth (in metres)
In addition to this, the text will be coloured in the normal BWind colours, along with an indication on the Ratio line of how the sails are set.
While the numbers presented are entirely accurate as read from the instruments on your boat, the colour of the text can vary from the colour present on your instruments.
Please note that the exact determination of how the sails are set can't be extracted from the data that the boat provides (unlike the Bandit 25). I've had to observe the colour present on the boat's instrumentation panel in a variety of wind speeds/angles and come up with a simpler set of ratios. This means that you will see differences between what my info HUD and the onboard instrumentation provide you in terms of colours.
Don't like colour of the text changing?
Well, there's a second script which does not use the BWind style to present the information. It displays just the numbers in white text and doesn't show the BWind hints sail setting hints.
This matches the Pacha's own in-built (but rather lacking in detail) text HUD, and should complement it nicely.
Note that the white text script is used instead of the other script, not in addition to it. Choose one script to put in your boat, don't put both in!
You may notice slight differences between the readings shown and the readings shown by other HUDs you may use, such as heading and speed. This script reports the boat's own instrument readings, unfudged. I have not tweaked them at all to match the navigational aids I normally use as there would just be no point in doing that.
I'll send out free updates as and when they occur, though I don't anticipate making any. The most likely reason would be an update of the boat changing the link order of the items I use as sources for the HUD's data.
Ver el artículo en Second Life- provides a textual information HUD for your Pacha 110
- uses a familiar BWind style presentation
- just one script to place in your Pacha
- an alternate script to use for those that don't want a coloured display
Very helpful and works great
The gauges on this boat are nice, but funny thing is I never noticed them until I heard they are on there and looked around for them. The stock gauges are so small and far away they are hard to see and while you are trying to see them you might run into something this script solves the problem nicely.
Fantastic Sailing Aid
I may be somewhat unique here but I could gather no information from the onboard instrumentation. I love the idea of the realism but with the limitations of SL, that level of realism works ( for me) as a hindrance, toggling between mouselook and normal is a massive distraction because the instruments are so small and all look the same. The Pacha is a high level racing / cruiser vessel with loads of detail and this Heads Up Display is a must for sailing pleasure and in the intensity of racing, ( I imagine, not being an experienced racer at the time of writing)
awesome clean..worth having mod
