A Louis XVI period trumeau mirror from France, made around 1790. This is an excellent example of a specific piece of French furniture that was originally an integral piece of the interior architecture in a home in Lyon. Made of fine wood, it includes a wonderful bucolic painting by the French painter Charles Emile Hippolyte Lecomte Vernet depicting a rural italian landscape, and two vertical panels on the left and right of the mirror adorned with gold leaves.
The term "trumeau" is actually an architectural term designating the space between two vertical elements in a room that needed to be filled with something. Because lighting an interior was a great challenge, during the eighteenth century the use of mirrors was an integral part of any room.
Louis XVI Style; wood, gilt wood, glass, painting by Vernet (oil on canvas). 100% Mesh.
