This hat is one of two commissioned by Arik Metzger (arikthered) for a special Coast Guard exhibit, and although I generally consider commissions to be the property of the person I made them for, and revoke all personal rights to them, he apparently thinks this is a decent enough hat that I should make it available to the public. You can thank him if you think it's a groovy hat.

It's in two linked parts, the crown and the brim. Each can be resized or adjusted separately using Edit Linked in the editor, or you could use a linkset resizer (available for free from a variety of sources) to do the whole thing at once to scale. Up to you. I've tried to make it as painless as possible.

This is the older style of nautical cap worn by various navies all over the world since the 1800s. There are a few variations, but this version should be easily modifiable to suit any number of looks. The crown is separately tintable, and I tried to make the UV map as versatile as I could.

The topmost stripe of little squares on the UV map is for the band, traditionally a ribbon, or "tally" bearing the name of the ship the sailor was assigned to, or their division or branch of service.

Hat 2 has a dangly ribbon bit in the back. You can thank Arik for this. It's there because it was standard stuff on older versions of the hat, and I believe some navies even still use it.

The UV map also has a panel which corresponds to the front of the crown; this is to provide ease in placing patches or other insignia if they're called for.

I know the sample texture is sloppy, but it's just a sample. You can make a nicer one with the UV map in GIMP or whatever you use for image editing.

IMPORTANT: Always work on a COPY! Keep backups in case anything goes wrong and SL eats your hat while you're editing it.

You should be easily able to work out the rest on your own as far as customizing the look is concerned.

Thank you for supporting my art! I put a lot into this, and my wish is for you to have the best stuff I can offer. I hope it meets your standards, and can be worn with pride.

Regards,
PheebyKatz

P.S.: I don't own the hat worn by Fuzzbutt (the KittyCat, not the old guy), and do not sell it. It's a KittyCats hat. I made the human-person hat worn by the human-person avatar dude in the picture.

If you want to know where Fuzzbutt got his hat, you should ask him, not me. He might tell you, or he might enslave your soul to the Deep Ones, you pays your quarter, you takes your chances.
