Reviews

This viewer shows pictures that are inside its contents. By touching the display near the right or left edge, you can step forward and backward through the pictures. Optionally, you can have it cycle automatically. The Viewer fades slowly from one picture to another in order to make smooth transitions.

What makes this Viewer different from other products is that it allows you to organize your pictures into different collections. Depending on your mood or your guests, you can select the most appropriate collection (up to 12 collections are supported).

All configurations take place through an easy configuration menu: you bring it up by touching the display somewhere in the middle.

Permissions: Copy, Modify (except scripts), No Transfer
Prims: 2

Filling the Viewer with pictures

1) right click the Viewer and select "Open"
2) open your inventory and locate the desired textures
3) drag and drop the desired textures into the Viewer's Content window

Organizing pictures into collections

1) right click the Viewer and select "Open"
2) right click each texture and chose "Rename"
3) rename each texture to: collection_name/picture_name
4) textures without a "/" in the name belong to the "default" collection

Example:

landscape 1
landscape 2
romantic/f2012
romantic/f2101
steamy/a2014
steamy/a2015

In this case, there will be 3 collections: "default", "romantic" and "steamy". To chose a collection, left-click on the middle of the Viewer. On the configuration menu, chose "Collections". On the next configuration menu, choose the desired collection.

Only the owner can see the names of the available collections.

When the Viewer is rezzed or reset, it will start in the "default" collection

Picture size and orientation

To resize the Viewer, right-click the device and select "Edit". In the Edit menu, select "Stretch" and stretch/shrink the display with your mouse to the desired size (or use Control-Shift).

Configure the width:height ratio by selecting the "Size" option in the
configuration menu. Changing the ratio can not be done easily by means of the standard editing functions in the SL viewer.

Never unlink the Viewer! There is some invisible layer (used for the fading) and it is hard to re-link the components of the display together after unlinking.

Limitations

No collections-inside-collections.

Maximum of 12 collections

If you don't have copy+mod+transfer permission on a picture, it can't be preloaded and faded-in. But it will be shown properly.

There is no way for a script to find out the proper horizontal:vertical ratio of textures. Make sure the textures have a H:V ratio that is compatible with the H:V ratio of the display, or your pictures will look distorted. For the same reason, don't mix "portrait" and "landscape" pictures in the same Viewer.

If you use the "collection" feature to hide pictures that you can't show to your mother-in-law :-), remember that everyone can still inspect the inventory of the Viewer and discover textures with compromising names :-) Just chose some "safe" names...
