Details

Maasai Chess is a two-person board game where players take turns moving a piece on the board. The board is 8 by 4 fields. Each player can only play the pieces that are on their own half of the board (4 x 4; on their own territory). A player can move their piece inside their own territory or move from their own outward, onto the territory of their opponent. As soon as the piece is moved onto the opponent's territory, they can no longer move it. It has become a playable piece for their opponent instead.

Pieces can also be captured. This can be done by moving a piece onto a field that's occupied by another piece that is on their opponent's territory. The captured piece is removed from the board.

The game has three different pieces: a short, a medium and a large dancer. These pieces are worth 1, 2, and 3 points, respectively. The goal of the game is to capture pieces that represent more points than the pieces captured by the opponent. The game ends when one of the territories no longer has any pieces on it anymore. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Each different piece can move in different ways across the board:

1. The short dancer can only move on step diagonally, either forward or backward. The short dancer can move like a bishop on a regular chess board, but only one step at a time.

2. The medium dancer can move one or two steps, either horizontally or vertically. The medium dancer can move like a rook on a regular chess board, but only up to two steps at a time.

3. The tall dancer can move either horizontally, vertically or diagonally, as many steps as are available on the board. The tall dancer can move like the queen on a regular chess board.

The first player begins a game by clicking on a piece and moving it to its destination. A second player can then join by selecting another piece (on their own territory) and move it too. If the first player moves the second piece instead, they play against themselves.

The settings of the game can be changed by clicking the side of the board. A dialog window will show up, featuring several options. During a game, either of the players can resign from the game by clicking the side of the board and select the resign option.

When the game is over, the owner can change access (owner-only, group members only, everyone). The owner can also change the time-out. Any other person can change the sound volume and toggle hints (on/off).

* Disclaimer: The game is Mod, but the script inside is No Mod. The Land Impact is 10. This may change if the game board is resized.
