A centerpiece made in matt porcelain (biscuit) by the Sevres Manufacture under the direction of Louis Simon Boizot in 1780.
The group depicts the nymph Calypso and her retinue dining and listening to the tales of their mentor Telemachus.
The biscuit groups were unglazed porcelain pieces, resulting in a delicate matt finish, similar to pure white marble, full of detail. They mainly depicted scenes from Greco-Roman mythology, or gallant (or pastoral) scenes, but also scenes from everyday life at court. Because of their delicacy, they were very much appreciated as decoration in refined spaces, as well as for dressing the table.
100% original mesh, this model has been made following the models in the collections exhibited in the porcelain museum of Sevres, and the Chateau of Versailles.
