RSS Requin

Thank you for considering the Red Sail Shipyard's Age of Sail ship, the Requin! Tthe RSS Requin is a mesh built, SPD enabled ship based heavily off of museum quality plans for the French 1750 Le Requin chebec. Le Requin (The Shark) was used by the French Royal Fleet and was built to defeat the Barbarisian Pirates who used similar vessels in the Mediterranean during the 18th century. Le Requin was one of eight chebecs built in France between 1750 and 1762. The ship was built by Joseph Caubet, a native of Majorca, and the build lasted eight months. The original ship weighed 260 tons (actual weight) and mounted 24 8-pounder cannons.

The RSS Requin features incredible detail only possible by using mesh building techniques. The builder wanted to keep adding details but had to draw the line to balance land impact with appearance. Even so, Captains will appreciate the realistic details and gorgeous swooping hull lines of the RSS Requin.
The RSS Requin's sailing performance will be as close to the much beloved and iconic TSS Shebek as possible, from irons angle and upwind/downwind speeds to acceleration/deceleration and turning rates. Efficiently scripted with a low number of scripts among SPD enabled ships, the Requin will continue the trend of ultra low script and physics resource costs sailing ships championed by Red Sails Shipyard.

Red Sails Shipyard is excited about building the Requin as the third ship of the RSS Age-of-Sail SPD line. Using lessons learned from the RSS Lorcha and RSS Philadelphia in scripting and mesh building, the Requin promises to be an incredible looking and performing ship for scale enthusiasts as well as competitive ship captains.

Thank you for considering the Requin as your next Age of Sail SPD ship. I am certain ye will find her a fine ship in all aspects!

Nicely sailing ship but poor construction

The ship handles very well, it is powerful and highly maneuverable, but it was rather disappointing to find out that it is rezzed in two parts, and the sail actually attaches to the avatar instead of being part of the ship. This was not mentioned in the product's details, so I expected a construction similar to the Ammah (the whole ship in one piece), therefore the low rating value.

A Fine Sailing Vessel

The Requin handles very well and the hud is easy to use. I did have to enlarge the hud a bit on screen which is easy enough. It is very detailed and handles well in battle. I have many old school pirate ships and this was the first low prim mesh ship that I have purchased. I find it comparable to the older 'Viper" ships. It is easy to modify as well. I added my colors and ship name to her and she is a fine addition to mine or anyone's fleet!
