Yup, it's a cabinet. It does nothing but look nice.
I'm so glad it's mod friendly, cause it can be shrunken down pretty far, or made fairly slim without looking too bad. The only thing that looks odd when you do that would be the shadow texture of the handles, but that's easy to ignore.
