+ Low lag 256x256 Resolution
Many years ago Mae Best uploaded a set of textures for rusty oil barrels and made them available for free for everybody in Second Life to enjoy. They're absolutely brilliant in most ways, lovely and grungy and although they're in a fast loading, low lag 256x256 resolution, they still look better and seem more detailed than a lot of laggy 1024x1024's we've seen.
They have one problem though, they are so dark you hardly see all those lovely details. Since we do have permission to use the textures any way we want, I decided to do something about that: download, lighten, reupload. A simple enough job.
Then I decided to add normal and specular maps to them too and that gave me a minor dilemma. Lightening the textures is a minor job and I don't want to charge anything for that. Creating the normal and specular maps is a serious job though so I need to charge for that.
The solution was to create two sets, this free one without the normal and specular maps and a cheap collection with them. You probably want the full package, those normal and specular maps really add to the quality, but it's your choice.
The emblems on three of the textures are not genuine oil brands or anything like that. They are actually laundry symbols from washing tags. ;-) ("CL" in a triangle is an obsolete symbol for fabric that can be bleached with chlorine, "100% katoen" is Dutch and means "100% cotton"). I'm not sure if the creator of the original textures only thought the emblems looked cool (they really do) or if there's some deliberate joke behind them.
