Rococo Sedan chair -C&G-
A Rococo sedan chair of the third quarter of the 18th century, made of carved and gilded wood, with rocaille and floral motifs, black quartan panels on all four sides, cambered top, and powder blue silk-covered interiors.
The sides and front door are engraved with a monogram embroidered with silver and gold thread.
they were at their peak of popularity in the 18th century, as a way of avoiding treading the muddy streets of the city when travelling short distances, so that one entered the chair in the comfort of the vestibule of one's mansion, and was carried by a pair of footmen to the destination.
The creation of paved pavements for pedestrians, and the shortening of ladies' dresses brought this type of object into disuse,
It comes in various colors, lime, orange, burgundy, black, and petrol blue.
Merely decorative, not a vehicle.
