Coffee

I’ve always been interested in the concept of Animism - the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. It’s easy to attribute a personality or soul to many of the everyday objects we interact with, especially those that seem to have a direct influence on how we feel, physically or emotionally. For many, starting their morning or easing into their afternoon with a cup of coffee or tea is an essential ritual to daily life. Food and drink is intimately interwoven into our social and cultural heritages, to the point that, for me, it’s impossible to think these things don’t have spirits of their own.
In this series, I have tried to express the essence of several beloved coffee drinks through a visual medium, personifying these drinks as beautiful, whimsical feminine figures.
