Norwegian Immigrants brought the art of rosemaling (Norwegian folk painting) to the United States since many of them came from parts of Norway where rosemaling was well established. They often carried their belongings in beautifully rosemaled 'wedding' trunks, with the quality of the artwork reflecting the wealth of the family, or the creativity of the maker.
