This virtual CH-47D is a reproduction of the Boeing Chinook tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Work on the Chinook began by Vertol in 1957 with the first helicopters entering service in 1962. With a tripple hook cargo system, the CH-47D can carry external payloads up to 26,000 pounds. The CH-47D is also ideal for carrying cargo or personel.
This virtual CH-47 from Shergood Aviation has the most advanced systems model of any helicopter in Second Life. Features include
*Realistic SA flight dynamics
*Compatible with GTFO
*OnBoard system allows crew to walk around cabin in flight
*Fully functioning cockpit
*Nearly 100 functioning switches/knobs
*Start sequence based on (and nearly identical to) the RL Chinook
*Six fuel tanks with both gravity and single-point refueling systems
*Five transmission systems with independent fluid tracking and monitoring instruments
*Three separate hydraulic systems with independent fluid tracking and monitoring instruments
*Functioning maintenance panel
*Three hook external cargo system
*Rescue hoist system
*Simulated failures

Great Job
Although I havent been in SL very long, I do know quality This helicopter flies amazing, offers challenge and and fun at the same time. Yes , you need to take the time, to learn and practice flying it, however the rewards are well worth the work.. Great job SA team
Controls aren't good
I really want to like this. The build quality is great, the scripts are done well, the permissions are consumer friendly- on the surface, this is a great product and clearly a lot of care has gone into it.
Unfortunately, the controls hold it back. It falls somewhere between being an SL vehicle and trying to be something from a flight simulator and winds up being worse than both.
If SL had the input and control options a simulator did, this would work much better. As it stands, you're fighting with the platform as much as you're flying a vehicle.
awesome
ok, ive never been in a helicopter in rl let alone fly one, but i do like my sl helicopters. i have a few from differant makers then i came accross shergood aviation, i was a little put off by the notice saying that its for experianced people but i just fell in love with this heli. the detail is outstanding and although shes a big bird she looks fantastic. so i bought it, the first time i tried it i crashed it big time, flames everywhere lol.so i turned all the realism features off untill i get used to it. after a few hours practice i was flying, and omg what a helicopter this is, it is a chalenge to fly but very rewarding and lots of fun. im very pleased i got this. in fact i love it that much i bought the sikorsky 92 as well a little more demanding but still a lot of fun. if your looking for a very good helicopter you wont go wrong with a shergood, THEY ARE FANTASTIC
Had to Buy
This is the aircraft I worked with the most in the Army. I just had to buy this and it looks just like the ones I used schedule and fly in.
Wonderful!
I'm an absolute novice at helicopter flying. After many warnings about the realism (and complexity) of Shergood's helicopters, I decided to make the jump because of the level of detail, especially in the newer models. The thing I learned is, the CH-47 Chinook is actually a good entry to the Shergoods, because you don't have to pay constant attention to torque that you would on a single rotor machine. You can also start with all realism settings "off" and use "quick start" (qstart). Those adjustments will get in the air quickly and painlessly. Then, you can choose to unfold the higher realism tasks as you wish and at your speed (wow, those checklists are intimidating!)
I absolutely love this helicopter, and the obvious care, skill and experience that went into its design. I even love the "whale on furniture wheels" look : )) Highly recommended!
My favorite purchase in a very long time
I had zero experience with realistic helicopter flight, but I have a love for detail.
To prospective buyers: This is not an easy craft to learn to start up and shut down even, much less simply fly, which is also a challenge. I spent hours learning the startup and have only managed short flights. I still have tons to learn.
These are the things I LOVE about it, though! Detail! Challenge. It gives you something to DO rather than just doing standard SL flight buttons. I have a helicopter from another maker that uses standard controls and it's easy... and boring. This is not boring.
The web site that you are instructed to visit has a great video on learning to do pre-flight, to start the helo and shut down and GPS controls. So much documentation. I can see that with all the detail, there must be an enthusiasts group out there where I can really start rounding out my learning.
Check fluid levels and equipment in pre-flight, detailed startup, realistic physics in flight... TONS of working switches, gauges and knobs.
AWESOME!
