This virtual S-64 Aircrane is a reproduction of what was originally the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane, now known as the Erickson S-64 Aircrane. It is a heavy-lift helicopter that employs two 4,050 shaft horsepower Pratt & Whitney JFTD12A engines. A single-point hoist system can be used with loads up to 20,000 pounds static (15,000 pounds for hydraulic raising/lower). Hard points on the sides can be used to attach various mission-specific pods. The first S-64 prototype was flown on May 9, 1962. The type certificate and manufacturing rights were later purchased by Erickson in 1992. This virtual S-64 has four seating positions for pilot, co-pilot, aft pilot (winch operator) and a jump seat.

The SA Aircrane features over 40 functioning instruments and gauges in the cockpit. This includes a set of primary instruments for the pilot and co-pilot, and a central set of shared gauges displaying engine and aircraft systems state. Three position lighting switches can be indepently controlled for the pilot, copilot and central flight instruments.
The aircrane has over 60 functioning switches and rotary dials that control the various systems of the helicopter. The full start, modeled closely from the RL pilot's manual, is described in a 95 element checklist.

A "kPad" mounted on the pilot side of the cockpit includes an App for displaying the helicopter checklists as well as a GPS/transponder App.

Kelly strikes again
full star full star full star full star full star Posted July 20, 2024 by MrEsRemain

This aircraft is hands down one of the best in SL, just like all Shergood Aviation aircraft. If you want to fly simple arcade game helicopters look elsewhere. If you want to challenge yourself and learn a new skill in SL then any SA heli should fit the bill. I love my SA aircraft!

Great machine

After have seen it many times, I did buy it.
If you look for a fast and agile heli, this one is not for you. But if you want carry mountains, this one can do it (ok, maybe not mountains).
I have the Chinook since long time, and we already feel the weight. But with that one, you really feel it too, much more. It is slow, it is very smooth, and a real pleasure to handle.
Once loaded it become difficult to stay "in the green" with the percent torque when trying to climb, but that give a good challenge.
That heli, i was worried to not see oil tanks to maintain, but it s not, maybe because it s a "old" shergood helicopter? Anyway, it is really a great machine. Thank you for that hard work on it

Absolute Perfection

It is Shergood. I am running out of things to say. Kelly does not turn things loose until they are perfect. One fun thing though I did with this one. Took a pod, put lights in it, and a full animated workshop. So now I have a full Mobile A&P Maintenance and Repair shop. Kind of cool. I call it F-MAP.

So much good to say!

This is sort of a long winded multi-heli review...so bare with me.
A few years back, my wife purchased the S-64, and we didn't get to spend as much time out with it due to the crossing issues of that time. From our first flight I was intrigued by the S-64, as well as several other SA Heli's, but when attempting to try demo's, IF I got past the SA shop, I felt lucky. I knew about the higher level of difficulty that SA's have (which I truly appreciate and really like!) but I wasn't expecting what I saw. I still had a ton of interest, but due to investing and building our shop up, action based on the the interest was put on hold.
Recently, a friend and customer to our shop, messaged me saying he just got the H160, and asked if I could paint it up for him. Not having it made it a bit of a challenge, but during the process of working up his new paint job, he gifted the H160 to me, to have my own copy to work with and learn to fly. I admit my first flight attempt in it was horrible. I made the mistake of trying to take off in our front yard, which is full of trees...you can imagine what happened. However when taking it out, though I'm was still twitchy in it, I started to get the hang of it.
I went to SA's inworld shop a few times before and since then, demoing different heli's. I, oddly, noticed I had a better feel and better time in the larger heli's, which inspired me to purchase the S92/H92 bundle, and I admit I've fallen head over heels with the H92, and, being the vehicle/boat/aircraft junkie I can be, soon after I finally grabbed this, the S-64.
All I can say about it is YES...and YES again. It can fly as smooth as you like, but abuse it, or get lazy, and it will let you know quick! The add-ons like the cargo pods attach with ease, and painting it, is as straight forwards as all of the ones mentioned above. In the end, 5 Stars isn't near enough for this one and all SA's!
Oh and to add to this, last night my wife gifted me the C-47 which is pure EPIC!

Goooooooooooood Mooorning Vietnaaaaam

Or at least it would be if it was the military variant, but this does just fine, lots of GTFO potential and roleplay aspects that can be accomplished with this heavy lift helicopter, stupidly complex controls to start and an awesome flight experience, just sucks that like the H-92, this also suffers a bit in being excessively prim heavy, but other than that it's great.

Love the Realism
full star full star full star full star full star Posted May 21, 2020 by PhilfairyKimono

I just want to say, that I have become familiar with Helis' from SA, and they are amazing, bottom line the most well scripted vehicles on SL. If you are in a hurry to get started, and get confused by the detailed startup procedure of this beast, then they have a Qstart option, bypassing the highly detailed stuff. But I recommend learning it. Flying it is a challenge, as all of SA's Helicopters are, which, in my opinion is why they are such a treat to fly. (and land)
Crosses sims very well, in spite of it's complexity, There are plenty of push and go stuff out there, but this is a realistic flying experience, as they point out in the add.<3
