Spying and listening to private conversations, even on local chat is not allowed by Linden Lab.
This object warns people around it, letting them know that you are listening. It also gives them the option to delete your object at any time. This is not really "spying" it is only Role Play.
In any case, use this object on your own responsibility.

How does it work?
Just aim and shoot (using mouselook).
You'll be able to listen to conversations on local chat range around the mic.
Mic battery only lasts 30 minutes, after that, your mic will not work anymore (and it will be automatically deleted)
How many mics can I use?
You can only listen to one mic at a time. Meaning that if you shoot another mic while you have one rezzed, your previous mic will be automatically deleted.
ADDITIONAL INFO
When you shoot a mic people standing around it will be warned OOC in local chat that you are "secretly" listening to their conversation. They will have the option to delete your mic by typing "don't listen" in local chat.
The mic is small enough to remain hidden but it has light and a hover OOC text. This is only to be sure no one thinks you are really trying to "spy" on them.
The mic will post an OOC warning message every 5 minutes, reminding people around it that you're still listening.
If someone finds and touches your object, you'll get a message saying your mic was deactivated and it will be deleted.
If someone walks over your mic, you'll get a message saying your mic is broken and it will be deleted.
When you detach your "Spy-Ear" gun, if you have any mic rezzed it will be deleted.
