The History of Sabzevar:
The province of Khorassan is a vast, rug producing area with a long and storied history. To ensure the quality of the rugs woven and marketed in the region Shah Abbas (1571-1629) regularly seized and destroyed badly woven or colored rugs. Mashad, the provincial capital, is the main market center for the Khorassan rugs. Other rug-producing centers in the region are Kashmar, Moud, Sabzevar, Ghain and Birjand. Many Baluch tribal rugs are also woven in Khorassan. Most of the rugs woven in the province are made of soft, lustrous wool on a cotton foundation. The patterns include historic pictorials unique to Khorassan.
Description of Sabzevar Style:
Sabzevar Persian rugs are hand-woven in Sabzevar, a town in the province of Khorassan. Sabzevar rugs feature rounded medallions and curved patterns. Their color schemes include tones of blue, burgundy and red.
Please note the original dimensions of this rug. Although supplied as modifiable, over stretching may distort the pattern. Also note that as a representation of a handmade product it may have less than perfect linage. This part of the beauty of such a rug.
