Small Bureau “en arc-de-Triomphe” made by the cabinetmaker Jacob in Paris at the end of the Directoire period and later purchased by the Empress Josephine in 1796 for the decoration of her rooms at her newly acquired mansion in Rue de la Victoire.
Simulating a triumphal arch, made of rich mahogany veneers, with a rich frieze decorated with bas-reliefs of arabesques, and phoenixes, on a belt of palmettes and supported by four winged cariatids flanking the corners of the piece.
The ebonized, lion-shaped legs are protected by gilt wooden shields.
