The poem was written by Bryn Oh, owner of the Immersiva sim (among others) and the creator of many explorable works of art. The poem was originally part of her work "Imogen and the Pigeons". It is used by me with her gracious permission. The process of getting that permission was gratifying. I met another wonderful person in this world and got a glimpse of the personality behind the works I've enjoyed and been touched by for years.
The original context was related to her work and the story she was presenting, but this poem sat with me for years and still does for different reasons.
The meaning of the poem for me, outside of the context of Bryn's work, relates to the nature of online relationships, of which I've had many. The log-off happens. In an instant, you are alone in this virtual world. The other person is beyond sight and sound. There is no lingering warmth or scent. No fading into the distance. There is just an instant vanishing. Until the next time you both log on, you are split-apart.
Bryn's poem wasn't written with that interpretation in mind. I just wanted to reiterate that. It's her work and is personal to her. I just wanted to share my thoughts as I see it as some songs speak to me in ways that the songwriter may have never intended. The song still has its beauty, however.
My thanks go to Bryn for allowing me to use the poem. Her displays will always be part of what has shaped my life experiences.
