This is a tachi, which is a Japanese sword but longer than the usual katana. It is in the simple black colour, and comes with its own sword stand.
The usual sword stand for katana, wakizashi and tanto displays the swords horizontally. But for tachi, because they are longer, displaying them horizontally takes up space. So tachi are usually displayed in this manner on sword stands specially made. And yes, they are placed upside down.
Note: This is a purely decorative item, for those who want to walk around with a Japanese sword. It does not support any combat system currently in Second Life.
