The bottom of a horse's hoof is known as a frog. There's no confirmed known reason why this came to be, but there are a few theories floating around.
The most widely accepted is that the indented shape the hoof creates is the same shape as a frog's pelvic bone. Horsemen in older times who were superstitious began carrying this pelvic bone for good luck, since horseshoes were also viewed as lucky, this bone was held in a similar light. Another theory says the frog of a horse dries up in dry weather similarly to its amphibian counterpart.
But no one really knows! Weird, huh?

These are great and a much better shape than some other frogs I was using, stallion model is buggy for me so mare only being available is fine!
