- Birds named with "sound on touch" play one of three short songs when somebody touches them.
- Birds named with "sound at daytime" play one of three short songs at random intervals (20-40 seconds) during daytime; at night they are silent.
- Birds named with "sound day and night" play one of three short songs at random intervals (20-40 seconds), whether it is day or night.
- Birds named with "silent" make no sounds.
- Birds named with "unscripted" make no sounds and do not blink.
Each bird comes in two versions, "crest up" and "crest down".
All above birds, except for the ones marked "unscripted", blink their eyes.
Note: The female and male cardinal sing the same songs.
