When you have arranged your layout and perhaps made it automatic using the Halt controls you may like to change or enforce speeds along various sections of the track if it is perhaps going through dangerous curves or pedestrian areas.
You may also like to open the throttle when you have a clearer section of line. With these Speed controls you can make your automatic train change speed or also limit how a driven loco behaves.
These controllers can set speed limits for 5 MPH, 10 MPH, 15MPH or 20 MPH. The top speed of a Valkyrie Transport loco is about 35-40 MPH so these controllers can be arranged such that the train ride slows down in more scenic areas and gives a nicer ride.
There are two different types of speed controller, one is for setting the speed on a simple type of track where the train only ever travels in one direction and the other is for two-way sections of track where you may need different speed settings depending which way the train is running.
For example you may have a hill where you want the train to climb slowly up but goes faster on the way down.
You may also want to set up speed limits in blocks along a two-way track. This is also possible with the second type.
