This Speed-O-Meter is a device to detect avatars violating a speed limit.
It is programmed for very low lag operation and is easy to configure.

--> Version 1.3 <-- If you have an older versin and did not receive an update, IM me please.
+--------------------
| Basic Set-Up
+ -------------------
| When you take it out of the box, just rezz it in the place where you want to do your speedchecking and it starts working.
| --------------------
| At default it will scan a full circle of 95 meter around the cone.
| It will detect Running speed and Far Move
| DRR and DSI will be on and it will ignore flying and falling avatars.
| --------------------
| In most cases his will be a good configuration
| --------------------
| To change this settings, just leftclick on the meter and use the menu to configure it.
+------------------------------------------------------
| For more menu settings see lower in this note card.
+------------------------------------------------------

Remember : A SpeedOMeter can only detect the nearest 16 avatars at the time. So sometimes you like to place 2 or 3 copies on a battlefield.

------------------------
What you can detect is :
------------------------
- Run - Running too fast
- FM - detection of Far/Fast Moves, these moves include TP
- Display Names
- Jump - detection of jump enhancers,
- TP - detecting of teleporting while in mouselook.
- Fly - separate configuration for flying avatars.
- DRR - Dynamic Range Reduction in case of too many detected avatars.
- DSI - Dynamic Scan Interval to have a long interval if nobody is around.
- Test - A test mode to have an easy check where one is detected and where not.
- Group - Group mode config
- Help - A notecard with instructions is built in.

The SpeedOMeter has the form of a small phantom cone, with possibly a segment missing.
If the segment is missing it is set up to detect in an angle of the size of the missing segment for easy visual setup.
(The use of a 90 or 180 degree angle is often the best in a small arena to avoid detection of spectators.)

If the SpeedOMeter is switched on, the cone will turn green.
When an fast avatar is detected the SpeedOMeter will turn red for a short time.
The Measured speed can either be told to the owner (Silent operation with llOwnerSay) or shouted.

The owner can touch the SpeedOMeter and get a menu for easy setup.
If another person touches the SpeedOMeter he will get all note cards that are available.
E.g. one notecard with this description and one more specific explaining the local situation.
You can add your own note card(s) too.

The scripting is done in mono and tries to reduce the addition of lag build up to a minimum.
As an indication you should expect an effect that is about equal as a swing of a well scripted sword at each scan.
This a bit depending on the range you set, the scan interval and the number of avatars in range.
In general you should try to place the SpeedOMeter in such a way that you detect only the avatars you need checked and not the spectators.

--------------------
The SpeedOMeter can be useful in many situations where the role play asks for speed limits.
-------------------
Some examples :
-
If you have set up a Royal Guard in a castle, you can decree that if anybody runs in the castle, which is improper behaviour, he or she will be captured and put in the dungeons.
You set up the SpeedOMeter in the castle and it will yell when someone runs (or even goes faster) and the Guards can start chasing and capturing.
-
If you have a melee tournament and want all contestants have equal chances, you set up the SpeedOMeter in the arena and let it yell as soon someone goes faster than 5.15 m/s or jumps higher than 6.5 meter.
-
If you organize a (horse-)race you can set several SpeedOMeters along the track to limit the speed, either at running speed 5,15 or at another max you have set for the event. (For races is also a SpeedWall and a race Scoreboard available)
-
If you organize an event that involves running from one task to another, you can set up several SpeedOMeters at tactical places.
-
If you set up an urban area and want Police officers chase speed violators.
-
and many more situations..

+-----------------------
| Note about speed enhancers
+-----------------------
Note please that the way speed enhancement in SL works (ApplyImpulse) makes that there are situations where a SpeedOMeter does not detect the enhancement.

The impulses in speed enhancers are applied in intervals which result in avatars running at normal speed most of the time and short bursts of higher speeds at intervals.
The SpeedOMeter scans also at intervals, which result in the possibility of missing an impulse. In such an case the FM could detect this pulse.
DSI is designed to adapt the scan interval automatically at the situation.

  • Detects avatars who move faster than unaided run
  • Detects jump enhancements
  • Detects Speed Enhancements

you have alot of option to set limits for the speeds, but im missing options to do something besides telling you the numbers. like ejecting people who are running faster or atleast send them a message, but at the end it only tells you or shouts the numbers / names.
