St. Ola was a small 1892 steel cargo/passenger steamer, sailing the Pentland Firth. She was there during both world wars, boldly negotiating the rough waters of Scapa Flow, until her retirement in 1951. St Ola appears (under a different name) in the 1939 British naval espionage film “The Spy In Black”. She is also mentioned in a number of books addressing that period in Scapa Flow, for example "Scapa Flow: The Reminiscences of Men and Women Who Served in Scapa Flow in the Two World Wars” by Malcolm Brown & Patricia Meehan (2007).

This is a rendition of how it probably looked during WWI, based on the resources I was able to find. Actual size, non-drivable, 100% custom mesh, 128 li. Not scripted. This 3D model is licensed exclusively for use within Second Life.

** A drivable version is in the works. Existing customers will get the update for free **

A note on the size: I have built the ship to her actual RL size, based on the information I could find. It is a small ship and you can witness that in the 1939 film mentioned above (at some point, a guy has to squeeze between a lifeboat and the superstructure to move forward). For that reason and in order to make access easier on the deck, I have intentionally omitted some of the colliders. Having said that, the model scales up well (up to a point) without a significant increase in LI.

You may see it in-world at the Scapa Flow 1914-1918 sim:

Beautifully detailed / Size is very reasonable

I was initially worried this static model would be too large for a ship in SL as the builder referenced it as being based on RL dimensions however it's actually a very reasonable size. Its footprint dimensions are roughly 41m long x 6m wide. It is smaller than many driveable ships in SL so it can fit nicely as decoration in many ports and still leave space left over for your driveable ships and boats. The deck is walkable and your avatars can easily navigate it if you add a plank connecting it to a dock.
