SAINT STEPHEN ICON

This is a reproduction of an icon of St. Stephen, deacon and martyr. It is one of our “decorative” or “mute” icons — it is merely a reproduction of an image, as opposed to our “talking” icons, which display quotes from Scripture when touched.

Our icons are created for private use and display in churches and other places in SL. They should not be resold or adapted for resale. Their size and position can be modified. Copy and Transfer permissions depend upon the particular version of the icon purchased.

ABOUT THIS ICON

St. Stephen is identified in the book of Acts as one of the original seven Deacons of the Church, and as the first Christian martyr. After giving a powerful evangelistic speech in front of the Sanhedrin, he was stoned, and St. Paul (who still Saul and had not yet become a Christian) watched over their cloaks as they did so. These events are reported in Acts 7. The Feast of St. Stephen is observed on December 26.

The original for this icon is identified on Wikimedia Commons as being on exhibit at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, Greece. It is in the public domain. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:St_Stephen.tif
