A gorgeous Swedish commode crafted in the late 18th century, carefully inlaid, veneered and polished, made of walnut, kingswood, satinwood and several other exotic woods within the marquetry. The bright and rich colors of the woods are embellished by finely cast gilt bronze mounts, trimmings, escutcheons, handles and feets, and by the matching grey marble top.
The Gustavian period was a major cultural boom in Sweden. The initial style of the period, like almost everywhere in Europe in those years, was rococo, but the general taste began to drift towards more neoclassical lines also due to the french influence and the discovery of Pompeii. Generally, today the Gustavian style is associated to finely carved and shaped furniture made of very light and whitish essences, but the richest creations commonly located in palaces and residences of the high aristocracy actually featured bright and exotic woods, very intricate gilt mounts and incredibly detailed marquetries.
Gustavian Style; walnut, satinwood, kingswood, various exotic woods, gilt bronze, marble. 100% Mesh.
