A rare Swedish Antique Rug. Sourced from my comprehensive catalogues of current and past auction items.
This lovely Swedish carpet is a magnificent homage to the traditional Swedish Rollakan or flatwoven tapestry, although here it is rendered in thick pile. The field has an allover design of fleurons and palmettes in cinnamon, ivory and saffron on tan, with a row of stylized horsemen at the top and bottom edges. A bold cinnamon ground border encloses the whole composition with monumental flair, making the piece a worthy, highly decorative successor to its traditional inspiration.
Please note the original dimensions of this rug. Although supplied as modifiable, over stretching may distort the pattern. Also note that as a representation of a handmade product it may have less than perfect linage. This part of the beauty of such a rug.
