ABOUT THEOPHAN
Theophan the Recluse (Jan 10, 1815-Jan 6, 1895), was a Russian Orthodox monk and was Bishop of Tambov before returning to the monastery to live as a recluse and devote himself to writing and translation. He was the author of many books on the spiritual life, and was the Russian translator of the great compendium of Orthodox spiritual writings called the Philokalia. His writings combine a compendious knowledge of the Orthodox spiritual tradition, a deep practice of prayer, and long experience as a spiritual father. While deeply learned, they are also unusually clear and accessible. Among the better-known of his books are THE SPIRITUAL LIFE, AND HOW TO BE ATTUNED TO IT, and THE PATH TO SALVATION: A MANUAL OF SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION.

ABOUT THIS ICON
Unlike most of our icons, this one is not based on an ancient original, as Theophan is a modern saint. The file used as the texture for this icon was downloaded from https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:St._Theophan_the_Recluse.jpg&oldid=221025239 which states that it is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International (https://creativec ommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en) license, and that the creator and date of the icon are unknown. We were unable to find a link to the original license, and because we are uncertain whether there are specific terms prohibiting adaptation for sale, we offer this icon free of charge.
