This French Empire mantel clock is constructed of griotte marble with ormolu mounts. The case has fine fire/mercury gilded mounts to each side of a flaming torch with crossed arrows and surrounded by a ring of stars. Below the dial is another beautiful ormolu mount of one of Apollo's muses, probably Terpsichore. The fine dial is surrounded by a magnificently cast bezel of ormolu roses. The convex white dial is signed " Deniere & Matelin Fabs de Bronzes a Paris" and having Roman numerals and Breguet style blued steel moon hands. Circa 1815.
This clock keeps SL time, with functioning hour and minute hands. It ticks and its chimes count out the hour.
