Table a la Tronchin made by the famous cabinet maker David Roentgen between 1780 and 1795
Of a very avant garde design, this rectangular table, completely veneered in flame-grained mahogany in opposition with the by then old-out fashion colorful marquetry, allowed the owner to use the table as a console, a writing table or when the top is raised, as convenient architect table, despite this latter name, a table such as this would have been largely used by aristocrats and usually described on the 18th century inventory records as “table for writing while sitting and standing”
