This is a beautiful Japanese folding fan.
The Hiougi was made early in the Heian era. And the introduction of Japan fan into all Europe by way of China.After the concept of Sensu spread to Europe, it developed into silk- or lace-glued Yo-sen.
A Hiougi has been used as an expression of respect and good wishes and as a gift and as a communication tool since the Heian period, besides its function to create an airflow.
