NuTech TARGET v2.0
WHAT'S NEW IN v2.0
1) Increased the number of target textures from 2 to 8. Target textures are:
Silhouette of a man
Bull's Eye
Alien with Rifle
Bear
Birds on fence and in the air
Deer
Nine target circles with red centers
Flying Duck
2) The Target now supports one custom texture of your own
3) Easier to re-size the target. Just use SL's Edit, Stretch, to size as desired then click the front of the target and the script fixes all the textures & target thickness.
4) You can change the color of the bullet marker dots
5) Updated note card
FREE UPGRADE
All Version V1.0 owners can send me a note card request (don't IM) and I will update you to Version V2.0 for free. If you received the target as as gift please provide the giver's name.
WHAT THE TARGET DOES
The primary purpose of this target is to allow you to test the aiming of your hand held (or other) weapons so you can see where your weapon's projectiles (bullets, arrows, thrown knives, etc.) are hitting compared to where you are aiming. The target rezzes temporary marker dots where your projectiles hit the target. These marker dots automatically disappear in about 60 sec. You can force all the dots to clear sooner by clicking the upper part of the target.
The target displays the velocity of the projectiles in meters/second. After a velocity is displayed, it will maintain the display and ignore other projectile collisions for 3 seconds.
GENERAL NOTES
The target only works for guns, rifles, or other weapons that fire physical projectiles moving at velocities of 0 to 200 m/s. Any "combat system" type weapons that fire NON-PHYSICAL projectiles or beams will NOT work with this target. Similarly, the target will not detect collisions with phantom objects or the ground.
Generally, the target is very reliable for velocities up to about 150 m/s. It may or may not detect faster moving projectiles, depending on the current sim loading, firing rate, projectile physical characteristics, etc. It may miss some shots here & there if you use automatic weapons. SL can only detect physical collisions at a rate of about 8/second.
For testing the aim & bullet spread of guns & rifles, I recommend you use single-shot or semi-auto mode. It can be fun, however, to plaster the target with zillions of marker dots in automatic mode. These markers do not count against your prim count since they are temporary, but there is an SL limit for the number of temporary prims that can be rezzed.
For your convenience, the back side of the target also has a target on it, however there is no velocity display on the backside. The marker dots can be seen from either side of the target and it does not matter which side of the target you fired at.
You should be aware that when you fire most SL weapons, that the bullet (or weapon projectile) may be rezzed several meters out in front of the weapon to prevent you from being killed by your own weapon (Some bullets can be several meters long). This means that if you stand too close to any target and fire, the bullet will actually rezz beyond the target and it will appear that the weapon is not doing anything.
Also be aware that some weapons intentionally have a spread of where the bullets hit even if you aim at the exact same spot.
HOW TO USE
1) Just rezz the NuTech Target v2.0 on the ground. Then position & rotate it to where you want to use it for target practice. If you want to use the velocity display, make sure you are looking at the front of the target.
2) Shoot at the target with your gun, rifle, or other projectile weapon
3) Note where your projectiles are hitting the target and their velocity. Use this information to obtain better accuracy when using your weapon.
4) Clicking the lower part of the target toggles the graphic on the target. Each time you click the target, it cycles between the 8 included textures and an optional custom texture that you can insert into the target.
5) Clicking the top part of the target clears all the marker dots.
Note: Only the owner can change the target graphic or instantly clear the marker dots but anyone can shoot at it..
MISCELLANEOUS
Detailed instructions are included for re-sizing the target, adding your own custom texture to shoot at, and for changing the color of the marker dots.
The scripts inside the target are NOT modifiable. You can, however, place a script inside your target. This is useful if you use a rezzing system that requires you to place a script inside each object it rezzes.
OTHER USES FOR THE TARGET
You can use the target to find out the velocity of most any physical object by ramming it into the target. For example you could run your dune buggy, airplane, jet ski, or spacecraft into the target and find out its speed. You can also walk or fly your avatar into the target to see how fast you are going, etc. For some collisions you may get a velocity reading but no dot marker.
ENJOY
See item in Second Life- Shows eight different types of targets plus one user supplied texture
- Rezzes marker dots to show where your bullets/projectiles hit the target
- Marker dots are temporary - don't take up your prims
- Shows the velocity of your hits in meters/second
- Lets you check the accuracy of your projectile weapons
