Introducing Trudeau's return to the "big boats", our 12 Metre racer/cruiser. Based on the real life 12 Metre class, the yachts that raced in the America's Cup competition for nearly 30 years from the 1950s through the 1980s, the Trudeau 12 Metre is an accurate scale model of these celebrated boats. 70 ft in length - "12 metres" doesn't indicate the boat's length, but rather the result of a complex formula whose variables include waterline length, sail area, beam, freeboard, "girth" (the measurement taken around the boat from one sideboard, under the keel, and then over the top on the opposite side back to the original side) - boats designed to this class were first built in 1907.
The America's Cup competition, suspended during the second world war, when resumed more economical vessels were needed to replace the huge and expensive J-class yachts that were raced in the 1930s; the 12 Metre class was selected. We also selected the 12 Metre as a successor to our popular J-Class boat, they are similar in inworld size (the real world J Class boats were nearly twice the size of the 12 Metres).
Size is about the only quality in common between the Trudeau J-class and Trudeau 12 Metre. Our 12 Metre is constructed of mesh, her lines and detailing are completely accurate and taken from the 1937 wooden 12 Metre "Trivia" (whose wonderful site can be found here: http://www.12mr.de).
The Trudeau 12 Metre has a full compliment of luffing "Trusails" - main, jib, genoa, and spinnaker. She has a full and spacious well appointed cabin for relaxing and lounging belowdecks.
You'll find more about her here: https://trudeauyachts.wordpress.com/2015/03/10/finalmente/
When you see her, you can understand why we consider her the new flagship of the Trudeau fleet
nice sailing but flawed in the animations sector
First of all let's make it clear: this is a truly enjoyable boat for sailing, I can underwrite what the preceding reviews say.
However the boat is seriously flawed in the animations sector. There is no general menu to choose your animation. The skipper must sit on the wheel (and be careful not to sit in the wrong place) and the crew must sit on invisible prims that must be highlighted to be seen. If the skipper wants to change pose must stand up and sit
on one of those prims. This can result in the boat being autoreturned, if nobody else is sitting on the boat: very frustrating. Even when the boat is not returned I often found myself seated again at the helm: the sit prims are not easily accessible especially those inside the cabin. Moreover the animations themselves are not so good.
I think that the animations system of this boat needs a general overhaul and an update to modern AVsitter system. Then the price of 4500 L$ will be justified.
Amazing!!
I finally got this boat, and I can say that it really is the best boat to sail in the second life with great detail and a real experience of sailing is quite similar to reality .. and very good with Crossing sim .. no probleim with it .. i almost sail for 8 houers direct without one crsash .. This boat should be the first thing you think of if you want to experience sailing exactly like reality .
thank you Jacqueline .
Great job
With my wife we have discovered this boat for a few days and we immediately fell in love with it,
Congratulations to Jacqueline for her great job
Both for aesthetics and for functionality.
Awesome Boat!!
The other reviews have said it all...totally awesome sailboat. Let me only add that I had a glitch in the copy I bought, contacted the builder and she solved the problem as quickly as was possible for her. Couldn't have asked for better response.
I've done quite a bit of blue water sailing including some very large sailboats. This comes as close to the real thing as I can imagine in SL. That said, she's not hard to sail at all and should not be intimidating to the novice sailor. I can't imagine having an interest in SL sailing and not owning this boat!
Really Excellent Boat!
The Trudeau 12 Metre is a thrilling and realistic boat. A beginner can certainly learn how to sail the boat in a short time, but it has the qualities to be thrilling to expert sailors. It sails like a real boat, and you will tip if your sails are not set correctly, and I love that. The only real boat I ever sailed was a Sunfish, so I started out with a Trudeau Leetle Cat II....a fantastic "first boat". For me, it was good to start with the small boat before graduating to the 12 metre .
There is a hud that makes some things really easy and fast, but those functions can also accomplished with keys like the arrows and page up and page down. You can set your own wind speed and direction using "chat" commands that are easy to learn, especially if you already have experience with SL boats. But, don't set the wind speed too high unless you have crew to add weight to the appropriate side of the boat. The skipper can lean to one side or the other to help with weighting, but if you are sailing alone, the sail is awfully big to counter- balance all by yourself in high winds.
Also, I tested it out on the Blake Sea this evening, and it passed from sim to sim effortlessly. There were a couple of momentary pauses, but in general, the boat passed from sim to sim as if there were no boundaries.
I totally recommend this boat.
