Details

Welcome to Vandervoort & cie. ~ a curation of some of the finest creations of Second Life™!

A fine Delftware cow figure, with blue eyes, an iron-red-delineated mouth, yellow horns and red hooves, neck and back garlanded with colorful flowers, and modeled affronté with a slightly turned head and lying on a green grassy surface of a marbeled-edged base.

Cows are the most famous and beloved subjects depicted in Dutch Delftware. Since the eighteenth century they have adorned mantelpieces, furniture and window sills. They were almost always produced in pairs, with their heads turned towards each other and tongues lapping. Remarkably, these cows are almost always painted with lavish swags of floral garland draped around their necks and backs.
