Verres Castle
The "Verres Castle", a copy of original real castle in Valle D'Aosta in Italy.
The real story:
Once the counts of Challant ruled over the surrounding areas from this castle, which is one of the most impressive buildings from the Middle Ages in the entire Valle d’Aosta.
The form of the castle is unique and noteworthy as it consists of a large tower, which served as both accommodation and defence. This tower is a cube with all its sides measuring 30m. It stands majestic on a cliff above the river Evançon. The wonderful Gothic windows reveal the age of the fortress and its function as accommodation. The stairs of the wide interior staircase go out from the walls of the tower in an anti-clockwise direction, which left defenders free to defend themselves with their right hand. In the 16th century the castle was extended with an encircling defence wall and in 1896 it was bought by the Italian state who have since given it to the region.
