The Regulator Clock

From it's earliest inception, a railway system has been a foreleader in the art of time keeping. Railroads were, for many years, the leading mode of transportation internationally, with some stations running nearly hundreds of trains per day in and out. It was crucial that timing be as precise as possible to prevent 2 single trains from a mistimed collision. The famous double sided clock that we all have seen was a detrimental part of rail stations internationally. As the need for even more accurate time arose, these standard clock were replaced with a clock style known simply as the "Regulator." The regulator style of clock took in to consideration the utmost importance of the minute. While the hour was commonly known, it was the precise minute that needed the most attention to insure proper timing for safe operation. This being so, the large main face of the clock was used solely for the minute hand, so that when glanced at, it made for no confusion, as the minute hand was the only hand you had to read. Two smaller dials were placed on the face of the clock, the hour and the second hands. These were made smaller as they were not nearly as detrimental for precision timed use. During these times, there was no national or even state system for personal clock in residences. The tradition became for clocks to be set weekly by taking the clock to the local trainstation and setting it off of the "Regulator." This earned even more repore for the Regulater clock as it became THE official source of time forsurrounding cities of each train station. At the conception of airfields and public airports, the "Regulator" was the domination choice of clocks due to its historical impact with regards to it's accuracy and reliability. "Regulators" were the prevailing source of time keeping in all major fields of transportation up into the late 1950's when they were again replaced by a certified chronometer.

I've recently, in my love of timepieces, which derives from my family being in the watch and jewelry business, originating with my grandfather learning to be a watch maker and timeskeeper, I have created the first reproduction of the Regulator Clock in SL.
