Farman III Biplane

The Farman III, also known as the Farman 1909 biplane, was designed and built by Henry Farman in 1909. Its design was widely imitated, so much so that aircraft of similar layout were generally referred to as being of the "Farman" type. It first flew in April 1909, powered by a 50 hp 4-cylinder engine. Farman soon introduced many changes in wings and tailplanes, fitted a four-wheel landing gear, and replaced the engine with the more reliable 50 hp Gnome Omega.
Farman was rewarded by commercial success, and many examples of the type were sold.
A flying replica of this aircraft (actually a Bristol Boxkite model) was built for the movie Those Magnificent Men And Their Flying Machines, flown in the movie by the character Orville Newton (Stuart Whitman), in representation of U.S.A.

The model represented is the Farman III 1910 two-seat with a 50 HP Gnome radial engine.
