General Description
===========
The Virus Simulator (VS) allows you to visualize the process by which viruses spread in a population and its affect on people. It rezzes and moves a number of simulate people around randomly, potentially infecting each other and progressing them through disease stages such as healthy, infected, asymptomatic, contagious, symptomatic, hospitalized, deceased or recovered with and without immunity. The model is driven by a large number of parameters and assumptions (e.g. probabilities, time delays, and the number, distribution and movement of people, etc.) that determine how the virus behaves and affects people. All of these parameters can be changed by the user to see how it changes the outcomes. By observing the simulation, it becomes obvious how factors such as social distancing, population density, infection rates and times influence the virus progression and statistics.

The VS includes both a rezzable VS Controller and a wearable HUD. You can use either one, but not both at the same time. When using the rezzable VS Controller, simulated people will be rezzed at random locations around the VS Controller. When using the HUD version, simulated people will be rezzed at random locations around the avatar wearing the HUD. With the rezzable version you can allow anyone to control the simulation and/or infect people, or restrict those functions to only the owner.

Operation
======
Start by rezzing the VS Controller in the middle of a clear, flat area about 20 by 20 meters. The default parameters will constrain the movement of the simulated people to a radius of 10 meters. Make sure you have sufficient prims available on the land to accommodate the number of simulated people you plan to rez. Each one has a land impact of 2. Default number to rez at one time is 10 people.

Touch the VS Controller to get the main pop-up menu. To start a simulation with the default parameters, select the "Rez People" button. This will rez 10 simulated people and start them moving around at random. Their initial status will be set to "Healthy". You can rez an additional 10 people at a time by selecting "Rez People" again. Next, you can touch one or more people to infect them. When initially infected their status will be set to "Infected, not contagious, no symptoms". As time goes by, they will progress to "Infected, contagious, no symptoms", then "infected, contagious, showing symptoms". During periods when they are contagious, they can infect others when they are within 2 meters (default). After someone is showing symptoms for a while, they will either recover or become hospitalized, depending on the associated probabilities. If they recover, they may or may not be immune to re-infection. If they are hospitalized and don't recover, they will die.

The simulated people and associated virus particle effects (enabled by default) will change colors to reflect their infection state and floating text will indicate their current condition.

At any time during the simulation, you can select "Statistics" from the main menu to see the running totals of various outcomes (e.g. infected, hospitalized, deaths, recoveries, etc.) as well as the elapsed time of the simulation. All simulation times are specified in days. Each simulated day corresponds to 15 seconds (default) of real simulator time. The statistics will look like this:

Changing the Simulation Parameters
=====================
This is the fun part! At any time during the simulation, you can show or change the parameters controlling the simulation by selecting "Show Params" or "Set Params", respectively. When you select "Set Params", you can navigate through a series of submenus to change different categories of parameters and/or control functions. For parameters requiring a numeric input, you will be given a popup with a detailed description of the parameter, its current value, a box to enter a new value, and a Submit button. Note that all probability parameters must be entered in the range of 0 to 100 percent.

Numeric parameter sub-menus are the following:

People: Allows setting characteristics and behaviors of simulated people (i.e. number to rez, density (spacing), safe (non-infectious) range, walking speed and step size).
Times: Allows setting time delays between infection stages and other simulation parameters.
Probabilities: Allows setting probabilities of progressing to various infection stages (i.e. Infection, Hospitalization, Recovery immunity and Death).

In addition to numeric parameters, you can enable/disable different features or change modes, as follows:

Particles On/Off: Turns simulated virus particle effects on (default) or off.
Infect Pvt/Pub: Pvt allows only the owner to touch a person to infect them. Pub allows anyone to touch and infect (default)
Control Pvt/Pub; Pvt allows only the owner to control the simulation. Pub allows anyone to control the simulation (default)

The "Show Params" button shows a list of the current user settable parameters and will look like this (default values shown):
