Recently I made a mesh classic wood hay barn for my old school homestead farm. As I finished my barn I thought to myself, "This is going to need an authentic looking galvanized metal barn vent with a fully functional weather vane."

So I made a traditional old style galvanized metal barn vent. This is the style that sits on rooftops and will adapt to any roof pitch including flat roofs. You place it at a depth were you can see the bottom vent screen as you look up inside your building (or just place on top of roof as desired).

First release was v1.2 on July 20, 2024.

The size right out of the box is 2.25 meters tall and 0.90 meters square. The vent comes in three separate pieces so you can (1) orient the base properly to fit your roof, (2) align the direction indicators with your placement in your region, and (3) allow the pointer arrow to rotate freely with the momentary direction of SL wind in your region. All three pieces have my touch to resize menu. You can also use the three pieces independently if you choose.

Just touch each piece separately to resize. On the wind direction arrow you touch the arrow head itself for the resize menu.

The direction arrow immediately points to the current direction from which the SL wind is originating. Importantly, anyone can also touch the rear blade on the direction arrow to get a private message detailing the momentary compass degree for the wind as well as the momentary wind speed in meters per second.

To install the vent you first select the spot on your barn or building to place the vent base. Then place the N-S-E-W direction indicator using the same X and Y edit coordinates. Then place the arrow on top using the same E and Y coordinates.

This is my original mesh creation and scripting. The arrow has a land weight of 1, the direction indicator has 4, and metal base has 2 for a total land weight of 7.

For authenticity this item is sold as copy only. Looking closely will reveal that you can even see through the wire grids in top and bottom of the circular section of the vent (no need to have bats and birds getting free access to your barn). The screen on the very bottom of the base is not see-through because looking up inside would only reveal the inside texture of your building interior.

Have fun, enjoy, at let me know if you have other authentic items of this nature you would like to see in SL!
