Leash laws being what they are, you may sometimes find yourself needing a good sturdy leash or lead for your pet. This is very tricky because if your pet has animated prim parts you might have trouble adding a leash to it. Or perhaps you don't even have modify perms on your pet. Or even if you ARE able to connect a leash to your pet, it will be VERY tricky keeping him walking like you want him while you hold the handle of the leash.
Enter the mad scientists at the Wingsong Dojo! We've made a simple yet functional leash that LOOKS like its attached to your pants loop (or some other part of your clothing). This is the way I walk my dogs in real life because it frees up my hands for other things.
Your leash is designed specifically for walking, running, and standing with your dog. Many other animations won't look right. But honestly, are you going to want your dog on a leash when you sit in a chair or go dancing? See what I mean?
TO USE YOUR WINGSONG PET LEASH
ADD your pet leash It connects by default to your avatar center. Then attach any pet you have in your inventory to your avatar center. Adjust the leash and your pet as needed using the MOVE function in your Edit tool.
If you have COPY/MOD perms you MIGHT be able to link the leash to your pet. ALWAYS BE SURE TO MAKE A COPY OF BOTH YOUR PET AND YOUR LEASH BEFORE TRYING TO LINK! If your pet has animated body parts it MIGHT become distorted if you link something new to it. If you DO link the leash, be sure to keep your pet as the root.
BONUS A
I'm throwing in a really great Wingsong AO HUD - Pet Walk V2 because it takes alot of guessing out of your outings with your pets. Here's how to use it:
1 - Disable or remove other Animation Overrides.
2 - ADD your Wingsong AO HUD - Pet Walk V2. It will automatically position itself near the top center of your screen. Small and nearly transparent, it is very unobtrusive and you can easily reposition and modify it.
3 - ADD your critter of choice. It also works great as a stand alone AO; this is the one I usually wear for casual use.
4 - Clicking on the Power Switch (the left button of your HUD) makes your AO active; clicking it again disables it. Very handy. The switch turns green when active and fades into near invisibility when disabled.
5 - Clicking on the Wingsong Logo (the bottom right button of your HUD) brings up a few animations I found in my closet. I thought you might enjoy animating yourself with them while playing with your pets. You must turn off your primary animations system by clicking on the power switch to use these animations; your avatar will remain in each animation you select regardless your movement until you select STOP.
This adjunct animation system expands your animation exponentially - it allows you to skate 2 ways, meditate, levitate, twirl, put your head in the ground, wave, and hold things (say, a pet!) while you sit, stand, and walk).
6 - Clicking on the Options Switch (the top right button of your HUD) brings up a menu of options including, among several things, this info sheet and selecting default animations for various key positions as well as a status report. The Options Switch remains green all the time symbolizing our constant ability to choose.
BONUS B
And just in case you want a really fun companion dog to walk around with you, we're including our excellent Wingsong Doberman Companion for Leash. Here are his FEATURES and HOW TO USE him:
1 - ADD your Wingsong Doberman Companion from your inventory. He goes everywhere you go. Move using normal movement keys.
2 - Your Wingsong Doberman Companion is animated; his legs move when he walks and runs and his tail wiggles a little.
3 - His eyes look around a bit and they blink/wink. His ears rotate from time to time. These two sets of animations work in concert with one another to provide alot of natural expressiveness.
4 - Your Wingsong Doberman Companion has a dual audio system. He has an automatic random voice, making one of 4 dog sounds every 5 to 7 minutes. You can toggle this feature on and off by touching his main body. Touch his neck for a menu of 12 Dober sounds: howling, barking, growling, whining, and one funny little puppy sound.
Your leash is COPY/MOD and can be adapted to work with just about any animal you have.
