Hanabira Mochi is a traditional Urasenke New Year's confection. The word hanabira literally means "flower petal." The image of this sweet reminds you of the gentle and sweet color of the ume (plum) blossoms that are one the first flowers to bloom in the year. The thin white mochi allows the inner pink mochi color to come through. The innermost layer is sweetened white miso with a candied burdock root running through it, protruding on both sides.
Please enjoy this with tea to start off your new year!
