Maiougi are a special type of Japanese fan used specifically for traditional Japanese dance, hence the name coming from mai (dance) and ougi (fan). Mostly, geisha/geiko, maiko and kabuki actors use such fans, as well as others who professionally practice and perform nihonbuyo (Japanese dance).
