kisetsu - Tsumami Kanzashi - Matsu Take Maneki - Soft

Tsumami kanzashi are hair ornaments made of pinched silk that are traditionally worn by maiko (apprentice geisha) to decorate their hair for formal occasions. This set is a 3 piece set that includes the main hana kanzashi, a small mezashi with one bough, and a kushi or comb for the bun of the hairstyle.

This kanzashi is one of the more unique types that are worn by maiko around the new year. The motifs on this set are winter motifs of pine and bamboo, which are used as the background for the paper maneki. The maneki of this set just have well wishes for new year written on them, but traditionally, they were autographed by kabuki actors. The comb and the subdued foliage of the hana kanzashi makes this set more likely to be worn by a more senior ranking maiko.
