Have you seen this one before?
Chin Rey's EC Shack 04 is based on the "Atoll - hut style 4", part of a set of Pacific style huts created by Eric Linden back in 2005 when Linden Lab opened Heterocera, the "Atoll Continent".
Eric Linden's Atoll huts were some of the best designed houses in Second Life but they were made back when builders only had four prim shapes and far more limited possibilities than we have today, so I thought it was time for a major upgrade.
Although it's not a slavish copy, this hut looks pretty much like the original at first sight. But it includes such "modern features" as:
• Windows that can be opened
• No alpha bugs
• Lots of three dimensional mesh details
• Parts that fit together properly
• A few discreet normal and specular maps enhancing some details
and above all:
• A much lower land impact
I was going to add a door too but changed my mind. This house really looks more like a storage shed than living quarters so I decided an open doorway would be the best solution. (I might add an alternative version with door later if there's enough interest for it.) I left out the large posts the original stands on though. This version is supposed to be placed on (relatively) firm ground, not hovering above water.
The overall style with panel-and-batten siding and corrugated metal roof is fairly typical of the Pacific region, inspired by the kind of quick-and-easy buildings settlers and scientific and military expeditions might have brought with them. The shack not restricted to that particular scenario though. It also works really well in a military role play setting, in any old scientific expedition scenario and in any kind of slum build.

Spot on style, great quality, love it!

I was not in SL in 2005 but I have spent some time in the Pacific. This building is spot on in terms of style, detail, size, textures, etc. The open door is true to the style and a great touch. The build is high quality, the working windows are charming. All you need are some chickens, tropical landscaping and a huge centipede and you're set. I'm actually using this building in two different areas (one not tropical), it works great as a shed or a house. Highly recommend!

These are excellent mesh recreations of the old Linden Atoll shacks. This saved me a ton of time having to recreate these library Atoll buildings myself. And you've done a much better job meshing than I would have! I love the little added details and updated texturing. Working windows an added plus. These will fit perfectly in Iris sim!
