ABOUT THIS ICON

Michael, whose name means “Who is like unto God?” Is taken to be the chiefest amongst the Archangels. In Christian Angelology/Demonology, he is the bright counterpart to Lucifer/Satan, and in this icon is depicted vanquishing Satan.
