I am proud to present the Bow Top Gypsy Caravan from Tin Teddy. A very special build for anyone who wants to recreate the romance of the travelling age, have a very detailed but low prim home in a small area or simply somewhere rather different to call their own.
The carvan is only 47 prims - that includes the steps. It is very easily rezzed and I have included lots of extras for setting the scene and enjoying your new home.
Firstly - the carvan has NO 'off the peg' textures. Every single texture was photoshopped and uploaded specifically for this project. Many feature rendered elements from the brilliant Red House Studios and I have spent many, many hours customizing every one. Just like the real gypsy caravans, this one is a riot of beautiful decoration, on every surface, inside and out.
The caravan is fully furnished. From the stove (mainly used for heating the van) to the rich velvetty curtains, I have tried hard to maintain an air of authenticity in the layout and designs. There are two pieces of furniture which contain the wonderful open-source MLP pose system (menu driven poses, no ugly pose balls around this caravan, hehe). The bed contains 29 couple's poses and the couch 22 (couple's and a few single) - and please note that many of these poses are by myself and unique to this caravan.
Included with the caravan are the following extras:
Four different copyable night lights - beautiful stained glass (5 prims)
Four different copyable cushions without lace trims (1 prim each)
Four different copyable cushions with lace trims (2 prims each)
A pretty painted mod/copyable bucket of water (3 prims)
A mod/copyable camp fire with crackling sound (7 prims)
A mod/copyable cooking pot on a suspension frame (8 prims)
A one prim mod/copyable hedgehog (maybe for dinner? hehe)
27 transferable salsa dances - they look like gypsy dances to me
The chimney will smoke if you type /5 smoke on - or /5 smoke off to stop it :-)
Remember, most items are copy/modify (scripts excepting) meaning you can customize your caravan and still have a safe backup in your inventory at all times.
The doors are lockable, have sounds and many extra features (full info included).
The caravan has an automatic update system ensuring that you will always have the latest version if I improve or add to the package :-)
I have had to take some liberties with the scale of the caravan, Second Life avatars are rarely as short as the average traveling person. Also, the Second Life camera system can present a big problem in small spaces. I hope, however, that I have captured the cosyness of a real traveling van and yet provided a spacious living area for any would-be gypsies.
Free Gift - all purchasers of this caravan will also receive an special Tin Teddy Jewelry set - necklace and earrings. This is transferable, in case they are not your style, and I hope in time will become collectible in their own right.
First impressions and work arounds
This is a lovely Vardo. Nice detailing on the scroll work, and paint designs. The included water bucket is black not red, but has a nice paint design on it. The chimney smoke doesn't work on unpacking. But just edit the linked prim on the top of the chimney and reset the scripts. Then it'll work. Draw back is the bed and couch use the old style of pose balls. Over all I found it a nice purchase with the included extra's
Beautiful caravan, but a few reservations
Let's start on a high: The paintwork textures on the caravan and the overall design and style are gorgeous. It's better than the pictures, fortunately...
...because I hate buying things without seeing an inworld sample. I messaged the seller after not being able to find the caravan in the store but received no reply. I took the chance, breaking my rule.
As mentioned, the scale of the caravan is not RL - it is much (3 times about) larger to cope with SL's 'peculiarities'. That's a good design decision and it works well.
Really, the caravan is beautiful and the extras (I've not looked at them all yet) are similarly good. Being modifiable will help with some (not all) of the things I'm going to mention now...
First, The description states, "MLP pose system (menu driven poses, no ugly pose balls around this caravan, hehe)" That is completely untrue. The furniture uses ugly pose balls. The menus are quite extensive however and some of the poses (many of which are static) are very nice. But still, absolutely not as described.
Second, the chimney doesn't smoke no matter how many times I type /5 smoke on. The scripts are no-mod so I can't check them to see why.
Third, it's a shame there isn't a fire animation in the stove. I looked at much cheaper caravans that have this (and smoke!) and was surprised that it isn't in this one.
Fourth, the pretty painted bucked isn't - it's completely jet black with murky water.
Fifth, I can buy a seriously good house with 500+ animations in many items of furniture, animated fires, windows, doors, hottubs, etc for less than a third of the price of this caravan.
So, given the above issues I'm disappointed with the caravan at this price. Basically I've paid L$1000 for a very pretty design with some basic animations, a few unusual and nice poses and several problems and omissions.
I don't regret it, but I would like it fixed.
