One advertisement argument for the newer BANDIT boats is: real instruments. They are meant for "mouselook", and yes, all those moving gauges look fine. However there is one ergonomic flaw: the compass can hardly be watched - not in 1st person view, not in 3rd person standard. If you are sitting comfortable, not at all.
So I finally made up my own compass - consisting of
- a 'compass teller' script which shall be dropped into the boat (I got a Bandit 60 here), and tells any new course on change on a private channel, and
- a compass HUD, which reads the messages and displays it accordingly.
(actually it is very much the same like with real compasses: The main compass is hidden deep inside the ship and tells the current value by little texts, called 'NMEA') to all the displays.
For the benefit of a realistic look I chose the analog display with a turning compass rose.
So far I have tested it sucessfully with the following boat models:
- Bandit 60 sailboat
- Bandit 50/3 sailoboat
- Bandit 380 power boat
- Bandit 480 motor yacht
- BOSS Craft roundabout
- BERDAV Marine 260SC speed boat
- Suncat 1.2_2 houseboat
- Bandit Pea/ SweetPea
compatibility checks by other residents:
Diafoirus: Bandit IF
- HUD Controlled
Great product, good value.
In addition to the boats specified it also works in the Bandit IF. Simple to install, simple to use.
