In all our journeys through diverse culinary traditions, few have left as indelible a mark as our latest meal adventure...
We had found ourselves lodging in The Moldy Cave, an inn uniquely nestled partly within an actual cave, at the entrance of an extensive underground labyrinth. The establishment was run by a stern and solemn dark elven hostess and an equally reserved duergar dwarf. As our evening meal arrived, borne by the somber innkeeper himself, it initially appeared as though a splendidly roasted turkey or some other sizable bird graced the silver platter. However, my initial expression of anticipated delight swiftly contorted into a countenance of shock and not a little disgust, as the dancing lantern on our table illuminated the truth – it was not a bird, but rather an enormous grub. This unsettling creature lay surrounded by familiar companions such as potatoes, carrots, and dragonfire peppers. The innkeeper, with a nonchalant demeanor and a massive blade, began carving substantial slices of the gargantuan larva onto our awaiting platters. My eyes darted suspiciously between the bizarre dish and my mentor, Sharian, who had already commenced his meal and chewed with an air of contentment."
