This is almost too embarassing to sell...
But sometime you just want to see which way the wind is blowing and get an idea about how strong it is. I needed to do that while I was testing the scripts for the windmills. It would be embarassing to have a windmill that went tail into the wind... This is as simple a way as I could find to validate their directions and spin rates.

So this is a single prim that you can rez and put up in the air.
If the wind is blowing it will trail in the direction it is going. If it hangs limp, no wind. That's all it does.
